Hi.

Have any of you considered Miata seats in your Austin Healey ?
I know that this make the car look different, but they are safer and
more comfortable than the original.

Miata/MX5 seats are not bad and Land Rover Defender seats also fit. You have to modify the Miata subframes to make them fit and you can't get much seat back rake in a 100. The headrests will stop whiplash and the seats are reasonably comfortable. The seat squabs are a bit short and a bit flat. I'll probably replace them eventually for some race seats and put head restraints on the roll-cage.

Cheers,

Ian

Very nice Healey .

I have a pair of Miata seats with fixed headrest that i have planned to
use in my BJ8.I have used them earlier in my TR6.
I have heard that some modify the rear end to Jaguar , XJS ? to get better road performance on their Austin Healeys.

I've got miata seats - in my MX5... and they are very comfortable, but ours are the ones with the removeable head restraints so a proper tonneau cover can still be used.

I've been looking for some of those for a while. What age MX5, and do they have the seat belt buckle fixed to the seat base ?

Any series will work but the runners all need modifying. A gas torch was needed with mine. I think you have a choice of one type of adjustable headrest and two type of fixed. One type of the fixed has a hole for 4/5 point harnesses. Ebay has quite a few examples at the moment. I got mine for just over £100 a pair but you'll possibly have to bid in a few auctions to get the price that low as they are quite popular. They do come with seat buckle fixed to the seat base.

For years I had a pair of " Paddy Hopkirk" seats which were/are very comfy and supportive. I have picked up a pair of MGF seats which look like they will fit
Most people seem to agree that standard Healey seats are not good for spirited driving
